Penmaenpool Railway Station c1970

Penmaenpool Railway Station c1970

This is part of a survey of Penmaenpool station comprising 56 shots all taken c1970, after the track had been lifted but before any of the major structures had been demolished. Today, the signal box remains as an RSPB observation and information post, whilst the station building has been rendered, painted white and is now a private dwelling. All other structures were demolished circa 1976, whilst the original bracket signal seen in some of these photos adjacent to the George Hotel has been replaced by a more modern tubular post signal. This survey, including many detail shots, would be most useful for anyone wishing to make a model of this station. The GWR line from Ruabon and Bala Junction made an end on junction with the Cambrian Railways Dolgelley Branch at Dolgelley but the Cambrian sited their engine shed here at Penmaenpool.
